Fifty European Union lawmakers, including 46 women, have been targeted by deepfake pornography, according to new research released Monday.[8034011] The European Union is banning AI-powered nudifier apps on Dec. 2, and is also investigating similar use of Grok on the social media platform X.[8034011] A cross-party group of 119 MEPs called for effective enforcement of the ban and prompt resolution of the investigation into Grok, in a Sept. 30 letter sent to Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.[8034011] Nicaragua says it will withdraw from the Central American Parliament, amid its crackdown on human rights which has left it increasingly isolated in Latin America.[7887478] The move comes after Nicaragua's government has faced criticism for its human rights record, including the arrest of opposition leaders and journalists.[7887478] The Central American Parliament is made up of lawmakers from Nicaragua, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Panama.[7887478] The withdrawal is the latest in a series of diplomatic efforts by Nicaragua to distance itself from its neighbors.[7887478] The EU has already imposed sanctions on Nicaragua over its human rights record, and has called for the release of opposition leaders.[7887478] The European Parliament has also called for the release of jailed opposition leader Juan Luis Guerra.[7887478] Nicaragua's government has denied any wrongdoing and has accused its opponents of plotting against the country.[7887478] The Central American Parliament has been a forum for discussing regional issues, including security, trade, and human rights.[7887478]
