For our client we are looking for a Cobol Developer (m/f/d) from 1.1.2026 to 30.06.2026 with option to extend in full capacity and completely remote. Technical implementation of the migration: Active and autonomous implementation of the migration of existing COBOL batch applications (including JCL, VSAM, DB2/Mainframe artifacts) to Java-based solutions (e.g. Spring Batch, modern databases). What skills are required for this cobol programmer (m/f/d)?

The essential skills and qualifications for this position include:

Excellent understanding of both technologies is mandatory: COBOL: Deep knowledge of COBOL syntax, mainframe concepts (JCL, VSAM, DB2/CICS an advantage) and common batch processing patterns. Java: Proven very good knowledge of modern Java development (Java 8+, Spring Framework, especially Spring Batch, persistence frameworks such as JPA/Hibernate). Migration experience: Several years of successfully completed projects in the field of migration of legacy systems (especially COBOL to Java or comparable). Methodical knowledge: Experience in applying refactoring techniques, automation tools for migration and test automation. Database knowledge: Confident with relational databases (e.g. Oracle, PostgreSQL) and mapping mainframe data structures. Soft skills: Strong analytical skills, a solution-oriented and proactive way of working as well as very good communication skills in German and/or English.

Additional preferred qualifications may include problem-solving abilities, strong communication skills, and experience working in collaborative team environments.
